With the pasture land abandoned and unmowed, and production agriculture limited in acres, much of Cedarcrest had essentially been abandoned.  The result was the growth of underbrush, weeds and unwanted trees that were of no value to either the farm or wildlife - and thus removal was be necessary to establish a new canvas for the development of native plant and the return of native animal species.
