Water Control
Water Control
In a wetland area, water control is a key component. The 3 Cedarcrest "duck pond" areas are generally bottomland that were previously used in production agriculture. These 3 areas were created with the construction of wide, low levees that are served by water gates. These water gates provide for the control of water in and out of each pond. This allows the area to be dry for the planting of plants favorable to wildlife and then for the collection of water for duck habitat in the the fall. Should the rains be insufficient, this area borders the East Fork of Shoal Creek, allowing for the pumping of water to fill the ponds. Installation of a new water gate was needed at the point the water is returned to the creek. Cleanup of the brush, trees and levees will also assist in proper control of the water.
